Bio
Dr. Julia Burak attended Rutgers University for her undergraduate degree, and then Colorado State University for her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. During veterinary school she worked on both oncology and microbiome research projects, became certified in Fear Free handling for dogs and cats, and graduated in the top of her class. Dr. Burak and her family were thrilled to be able to return to their friends, family, and deep roots in Boulder to establish her veterinary career.
Prior to going back to school for her doctorate, Dr. Burak worked for the American Red Cross, the Housing Authority of New Orleans, and at several other non-profit organizations. Her previous experiences in the veterinary field are equally diverse, having worked in general practice hospitals in both Louisiana and Boulder, as well as at an ophthalmology specialty practice in Denver. She also has experience caring for orphaned and injured native birds at two different wildlife rehabilitation facilities, as well as experience fostering shelter dogs and orphaned kittens.
Dr. Burak is excited to focus on primary care and building long term relationships with clients. She is particularly interested in ophthalmology, dermatology, and the care of geriatric animals. She is thrilled to be able to work with exotic animals, and is dedicated to practicing gentle handling and excellent medicine across all species.
Dr. Burak lives in Boulder with her husband, Ben, their son, Charlie, and the family's pride and joy scruffy mustache dogs, Fox and Huxley. In her free time she enjoys hiking, running, her fish tanks, and spending time with friends and family in the neighborhood. She is very thankful to be joining the team at North Boulder Companion Animal Hospital, and looks forward to forming deep relationships with both pets and their people for many years to come.
